I love to read. Maybe that’s why my husband and
I started this business. We wanted to share with all of you the wonderful books
that we have found. Elizabeth George (author of A Woman After God’s Own
Heart
) once said that we can do something good, something better, and
something best and of course she encourages us to do something best. That’s how
we feel about books. There are good books, better books and best books. We try
to choose the best books. So on this page I will write about some book that
especially hit my heart. I also plan to have others write about the books about
which they can say “I love this book!”

Get Real: Sharing Your Everyday Faith Every Day

I often find at least one book a year that becomes my “Book of the Year” and this one is it!

get better
get perfect
get done
get right
get going

get real:  sharing your everyday faith every day! by John Leonard

Leonard uses great illustrations to bring points home to our hearts.  Just like Jesus did in the Bible.  He makes everything come alive and piercing to my heart!

As I was reading this book, I first was vividly reminded of God’s amazing grace to us.  Leonard says, “We must realize it is all Jesus and nothing of us and give him all the praise and glory.  The Christian life is lived–from beginning to end–by grace.  If we are going to share this message with others, we must first know it for ourselves.”

Amen!

I love how Leonard uses Christ’s methods for bringing the gospel to the people of His time, and applies it to us right here and now.  What better way to evangelize than the way Christ did!  Reading passages of Scripture that I have seen so many times and listening to Leonard describe them in logical detail brought them alive to me again!  I love when an author shows me that there is so much of the Bible that I have missed because I have become “used” to it.  God’s word is living and active:  ALIVE!  if we let it sink into our hearts.

Some of the chapter titles are:  Evangelize Christians and Disciple Non-Christians, Let Christ Lead People to You, Listen More than You Speak, Sow Wisely, and so many more.

Leonard writes well, keeps you interested, and shares his heart for evangelism with you!  This is a must read!  You can find it here:  http://findingchristthroughfiction.com/2013/12/10/get-real-sharing-your-everyday-faith-every-day-by-john-s-leonard/

A Lost Pearle by Mrs. George Sheldon

Retail:   $30.00
Our Price:   $25.50

[Price: $25.50; Title: “A Lost Pearle”.]

We love to read Lamplighter books.   One of our favorites has always been The Hidden Hand by Mrs. E.D.E.N. Southworth.   Every book is compared to it, and we have found some that are very close.   But this book, A Lost Pearle, is just as wonderful as The Hidden Hand.   When we began to read it, we were immediately drawn into the mystery of the book.   We had to find out why Pearle had walked down the aisle (or perhaps been dragged down the aisle) with someone who was not the planned bridegroom.   We had a very hard time putting the book down.

One reason I love this book is that Pearle is not perfect.   She has a lot of good qualities, yes, but you see some of the mistakes she makes, and that she allows her heart to dictate her actions at the beginning of the book.   As the book proceeds, we can see her begin to change, depend on the Lord, and see people and situations with God’s eyes instead of with her own biased view.

Another reason I love this book is because I really hate the villian.   And I can’t figure out how Pearle is ever going to get out of the mess she is in!   And I’m not going to tell you if she does get out of it because you will have to read the book to find out!

Safely Home by Randy Alcorn

Retail:         $14.99
Our Price:   $12.74

[Price: $12.74; Title: “Safely Home”.]

Years ago I read a book called Deadline.   It was a suspenseful fiction book that talked a lot about what heaven might be like, using a story and weaving in details that were fascinating.   At that time, I had not heard of Randy Alcorn.   Years later, when I reread this book (I had always wanted to read it again), I discovered that he was the author.   So when  my daughter’s friend mentioned   that she had read Safely Home, and  that it was written by Randy Alcorn, I had to read it.   I did, and I loved it!   Randy Alcorn has such skill in writing a story that includes heaven, hell, earth, and pertinent details for today.   Safely Home takes place in China and describes the persecuted church there.   It is hard for us to believe that countries around the world are imprisoning, beating, and torturing Christian pastors and their congregations.   It is illegal in China to meet in a house church and brings great persecution.   This book reminds us that our home is not here on earth, but in heaven, and that our Lord and Savior Jesus does not look the other way when His children suffer.   It angers Him, grieves Him, and He will one day bring retribution to those who are not repentant for their acts here on earth.   This is an awesome book, and I hope you enjoy it!
